4 Free Stock Footage Clips Are Just My Type

I've been really lucky lately to have the opportunities to cross a lot of shots I've been meaning to get off of my list.  These next 4 (and probably more in the future) are the result of an excellent garage sale find.  With the lenses I have available to me, I was able to get some pretty nice somewhat closeup shots of this typewriter's typebars.  I had to get these with my Canon 24-105mm (non-macro).  The 24mm Sigma I have, that would allow macro focusing, was too wide when brought in close to the machine.  I'd definitely like to revisit this when I can get my hands on a longer macro lens.  The ribbon on the machine was also misaligned, so I wasn't able to get any visible type on paper.  I'm looking forward to tinkering with it to see if it is an easy fix. I had hoped to get some shots of the machine typing "The End" and "Once Upon a Time".  I'd also like to take the carriage off and get a POV shot from the paper's perspective, but I think I'll need a longer macro lens for that as well.  So as it stands ... 4 for you now ... more for you later.  I shot this both in regular and slow motion.  I love the energy the regular motion typing has, but the POWER behind the slow motion shots really blew me away.  It's like every keystroke was a KO punch.  I do acknowledge that I blew it with the audio for the real time shot.  The camera mic wasn't even close to being hooked up or near me when I started doing this.  I've been so used to no audio anyway when doing all of the slow mo work that I just completely overlooked it.

Once again I've included some different angles/options to hopefully help in editing.

1 Free Stock Footage Clip Hits the Deck

Here is another clip I had been meaning to do for a while.  I've finally found the time to sit down and capture it.  Personally, the timing is perfect, considering I am completely geeking out over Marvel's new Guardians of the Galaxy movie (unpaid plug, but if you want to send me something Marvel, I won't turn it down!).  For those of you media professionals who are late to the game making a video review, feel free to utilize this in your project (It would make a great title card!).

This clip has also been made loopable.

3 Stock Footage Clips for a Fan

I tend to browse Twitter daily, reading news from the stock footage world.  The other day, I came across a Twitter user who was coming up with nothing when looking for free stock footage of an electric fan.  Since I am always looking for my next clip idea, I replied to his tweet to see if there was anything specific he was looking for.  Fortunately the type of fan he was looking for was similar to an old one I had in my basement at home.  That night I captured some shots to offer online.

These clips were shot at 240 frames per second.  I wanted to reduce the motion blur on the spinning blades, knowing the footage can be easily sped up. The opposite, not so much.  Once again I've included some different shots to hopefully help in editing.

3 Clips Turn The Tables

Got my hands on a turntable the other day and wanted to offer up a few shots.  You can get a loopable background of the vinyl spinning, a close up of the needle on the disc, and a time lapse of an entire play through.  Personally I like the close-up background.  What is cool is you could apply a little blur effect and it could possibly double as an ultrasound.  HA!

1 Clip Needs To Focus

Had access to a camera with a remote control and thought that this clip would work well for some people.  I love the shallow depth of field the sigma lens gets me.

1 Clip Tries To Read And Write

I had an old external DVD writer that always failed when burning a disc.  I thought that I could finally get some good use out of it, and open it up.  What I didn't expect, was how tricky it is to get to the laser and actually have it on and trying to read something.  Well, for a macro shot, I think it turned out all right.

3 Clips to keep you Technologically En-"light"-ened

I have 3 clips for you today, one more technical and two that feature light bulbs.  These types of stock video clips are becoming popular, since many news packages feature stories about energy/power efficiency, and light bulbs are at the forefront of that movement. In my opinion, the sound I got from these two bulbs is worth the download alone!

4 Clips Crank it to Eleven

I thought I would try to balance out all of this nature stuff I have been posting lately with some more electronics.  I know I have a certain following now that produce some wonderful techno-centric VJ pieces, so I thought some of these would help.

My First Few Clips (4 Included)

So here we are!  To get the ball rolling, I have selected a few clips that are a series I call "Meters".  These are shots of old modulators.  I have also included a digital clock looped time lapse I did that adds a little chaos to the counting.  Enjoy!
