1 Free Stock Footage Clip Yule Love

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I know some of you may not celebrate Christmas, and eventually I hope to have stock footage of different celebrations as well.  It just so happens that I have initial access to X-mas decorations.  This is fortunately one of my more timely posts.  I am happy to be able to get this one up before the actual date.  You'll see when I am finally able to upload the Halloween stuff I shot in October.  Hope this helps!

As you may know, recently I am pushing the boundaries as far as how many media files I can associate with each clip through Archive.org.  You have the option of downloading a PhotoJPEG, H.264 or WMV file. I'd also like to go back and update all of the earlier clips and will do so eventually.  Doing so is a very big time commitment for me with the current processing power of my computer.

You can preview and download the clip by clicking "read more" below.  Happy Downloading!

1 HD Clip has a Silver Lining

Came across a beautifully silver sky the other day.  The sun was coming through a patch of clouds to the right of this time lapse, projecting it's rays onto some of the others.  I was quite pleased with this one.  One of the challenges I gave to myself recently was to learn as much as I could about creating time lapse videos of clouds.  You cannot imagine the wild variables you run into in this environment.  I have learned a lot, and I hope some of you may be able to benefit from it.

1 HD Clip is an Animated Day

I wanted to get back to animation using Adobe After Effects after I saw how many people are using my videos as backgrounds for their web pages and DVD/Blu ray menus.  I thought this one might be useful for anyone who needs something a little more innocent and child friendly.  I wanted to try to get something more "Little Big Planet/Paper Mario" like style.

1 HD Clip is the Corporate Cloud

It took me a while to capture this clip once I decided I wanted to do it.  You would be shocked at the sliver of sky this footage actually catches.  I had many failed attempts while I waited for the perfect cloud cover.  The speed of the clouds passing is also magnified, considering they only pass through a small portion of the frame.  It is enhanced by the reflection moving in the opposite direction.  Quite tricky, but it was a great chance to test out my circular polarizer.  I hope people are able to utilize this clip, and hopefully it will come in handy for some of our more "corporate video" type users.

Not exactly sure how I was able to pull this clip off, but I love the way it looks.  It might be helpful for anyone looking for an atmospheric background.

1 HD Clip Passes on the Left

I shot this on a whim the other day while driving down an access road near one of our busier expressways.  I am really happy with how it turned out, but it did take me a good amount of time to edit out the amazing amount of birds that flew through the shot.  Here is where I am very thankful for Photoshop's "content aware fill".  It made editing these frames very easy.

As you may know, recently I am pushing the boundaries as far as how many media files I can associate with each clip through Archive.org.  With this file you have the option of: 10-bit DNxHD (Avid and Premiere Users), PhotoJPEG (Final Cut and iMovie Users), H.264 (Native to DSLR Cameras) and WMV (Windows Movie Maker).  I'd also like to go back and update all of the earlier clips and will do so eventually.  Doing so is a very big time commitment for me with the current processing power of my computer.

1 HD Clip Keeps You On Course

I've wanted a shot like this for a while, and am actually very happy with how this HDR turned out.  It was shot as a Time-lapse, but with how calm the trees were (mixed with the soft bokeh) the shot looks real time with beautiful HDR detail.

Also it should be noted that this is our 100th clip!!!!!!!!!!!

1 HD Clip is Your Daddy

I saw this guy and his friend (girlfriend?) on a tree while I was walking through the woods the other day.  In the Northeast US, we call these "Daddy Longlegs", but in researching for this post, I found out that the name "Daddy Longlegs" refers to different Insects in different regions.  As far as I have been able to find, this is a Harvestman. If anyone out there knows more about who this guy is, please feel free to comment below.

1 HD Clip Needs a Pot of Gold

I was fortunate enough to stumble across Attila Vago's blog "BitsBits".  It is there where you can find the best free things on the internet.  He posted an offer by Daz3D  for free licensing of the 3D modeling program Bryce 7.1.  I used Bryce over a decade ago in college, so I was interested in trying it out again.

Getting back into the swing of things, I was able to put this little clip together in very little time, but rendering it out proved to be a resource hog on my tiny little laptop.  To me its an abstract look at what it may be like to travel through a rainbow if it was something more than an optical illusion and refracted light.

This clip is loopable.

1 HD Clip is on the Grid

I have been wanting to get a shot like this for a while, and came across a beautiful day with some speckled clouds in the background.  This time lapse takes us from dusk to night.

I am also pushing the boundaries as far as how many media files I can associate with each clip.  With this file you now have the option of: DNxHD (Avid and Premiere Users), PhotoJPEG (Final Cut and iMovie Users), H.264 (Native to DSLR Cameras) and WMV (Windows Movie Maker).  I'd like to go back and update all of the earlier clips and will do so eventually.  Doing so is a very big time commitment for me with the current processing power of my computer.

1 HD Clip Leaks a Little

I have been experimenting with a couple of general effects and thought it might be kind of cool to create my own "Light Leak".  These videos are used traditionally as an overlay and helps transition between clips.  They give a very nostalgic effect to your footage, and really helps those people going for that "instagram" like look in their video.

I went about creating it a little differently and stacked 2 lenses to give myself a slight pinhole of exposure.  People can now scale the leak to any size as well as position it any way they'd like to get the desired effect.

I'll post some examples of people using the light leak effect correctly to our Facebook page.

1 HD Clip Opens it's Mouth

I went out and shot this for a project I was putting together for someone.  Why is it that i always have to challenge myself with water?  I really learned a lot when playing with three different moving planes (Clouds, Lake and River) during an HDR time lapse shoot.  I also love the detail that I was able to bring out in the sand.

You will also see in the download links below that I have made available a PhotoJpeg (.mov) file as well as the standard H.264 (.mp4) file.  Time permitting, I will try to make both available.  Mac users should have a much easier time with the PhotoJpeg format.

1 Clip Shows Your Form

I was playing around in After Effects the other day and came across it's ability to visualize audio in a waveform.  I grabbed a clip I had with some music in it, and I processed it through the program.  It's a great feature to use if anyone has AE available to them.  Otherwise, feel free to download and use mine instead.

1 Clip to Remember

This site gets a lot of visitors from around the world.  My goal has always been inclusion, but since I live in the United States, unfortunately my day to day activities are centralized more around what is going on Stateside.  This weekend is the holiday "Memorial Day" and I came across these two flags wrapped together and quite aged.  I thought I would capture them quickly and offer them to you guys.

I understand that Memorial Day is an American holiday, but no matter where you are reading this from, my thoughts and prayers go out of you, your family, your friends, your service members, and your community.

Safe is Safe and War is Hell.  That should be a global feeling.

2 Clips are Dandy

Shot these 2 clips while I was on a walk the other day.  The entire walk, I didn't see much that sparked my interest, and these buggers were growing about 10 feet away from where my car was parked.  I really hate these weeds, but nothing signifies spring like dandelions.

1 Clip Needs You To Blow In It

I made this clip the other day for a small project I am toying with.  It was meant to recreate the trippy side effect of a dirty 80's video game cartridge's display when you tried to boot it.  If anyone here isn't old enough to remember, the remedy was blowing into the cartridge to get the dust and junk off of it.

1 Clip is Just a Phase

I had my first chance to get another time lapse of the moon.  My first one I did was with a 200mm Canon EOS lens I had borrowed from a friend.  This one I did with my old Tokina Minolta mount 200mm lens, and the MD to EOS adapter.

If you compare the two, you can see how much I have learned over the past few months.  Here's to better quality videos for everyone!!!  You will also notice I am testing my ability to upload different file formats to Archive.org.  You have a selection below between H.264, Quicktime PhotoJPEG or Avid DNXHD (almost 1GB in size!)

2 Clips are First Responders

I was fighting with my conscience on shooting this footoage.  There was a traffic accident near my house that was drawing a crowd.  I mentioned to my wife that I had always thought that offering footage of emergency vehicles would be a good idea since the footage is used in PSAs and other well meaning media. My idea was to stop by fire halls or police stations and ask for close-ups of some of the vehicles, or ride-along on trainings, not poach real accidents.  I decided that if I shoot with a focus not so much on the detail, but the feel of the scene, I would be able to sleep at night.  This would make a great background for informational text in videos, or to set the mood for more serious projects.  I have included a clean shot, and well as one that is a little more "voyeuristic".

This was also the test run for my old 35mm MD mount lens using my new adapter for my T2i.  I think it looks pretty good!

1 Clip is Watching the Tide Roll Away

I found this dock and a few next to it on a walk to other day.  I love at how rusty the rails are and the clouds were just perfect.

I did this HDR shot a little differen by processing the images twice.  The second pass with the original files, I offset the whole series by 1.  This gave me twice as many frames to work with.  I will try to detail this process in another post, but it has gotten me excited about doing more.

Small Equipment Update for Everybody

Hey Everybody,

Work has been busy for me lately, but I have a few clips I'm going to be uploading very soon.  I also just ordered a Fotodiox Lens Mount Adapter - Minolta MD to Canon EOS Camera Adapter for shooting. This will hopefully give me even more flexibility. I have plenty of 35mm MD lenses that I would love to try out on my T2i (When is the T4i coming out anyways?!?!?!).

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE DONATED!!!!!!

Every donation improves the quality of the footage offered, and the speed that I am able to get it to you.  This adapter will also be added to my Gear I Use page to keep you guys updated on what I use to do what I do.
